They call me the Night Queen, with a heart as dark as the night itself. And as such, I will rule my future kingdom. No light shall ever touch my broken heart again.
On her twentieth birthday, the beautiful but arrogant Princess Mina von Rhine crosses the point of no return. Unwilling to be married off to a warmongering Northerner, she defies her father, the powerful King of the Rhine, and ridicules all her potential suitors.
Furious at her appalling behavior, her father vows to give Mina’s hand in marriage to the first unmarried man who walks through the palace gates—be it nobleman or beggar. And when an impoverished Northern soldier arrives at the castle the following day, the king stands by his word and offers Mina to him.
This ill-suggested match, however, might prove of use to Mina after all. The Northern soldier doesn’t seem too fond of the marriage himself, so Mina offers the handsome but insufferable warrior enormous riches if he helps her escape into the North.
But the dangerous journey through war-torn lands forces the princess to realize that if she can’t melt her frozen heart, marriage might be the least of her concerns.
From the author : This is a beautiful, dark, and romantic re-imagining of the long-forgotten German fairy tale ‘King Thrushbeard’ (first published by the beloved Brothers Grimm whose works include such classics as Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and Rapunzel). If you’d love to read an adult version of a compelling old fairy tale and enjoy enemies to lovers romances with sizzling passion, then this book is a must-read for you.
A day in your writing life.
I am getting up at 5.30 AM. Well, more like being woken up by my toddler at 5.30 in the morning (WHY?!). I get him ready for school and make breakfast for everybody, including hubby, who leaves for work around 7 AM. After that, I drop my little guy off at school and get caught up in chit-chat with other moms about the most boring things you could possibly imagine. But I can’t help it.
Finally, I get back home and behind my computer to work on my books.
I’m pregnant right now, so I constantly eat while I write. My keyboard is littered with crumbs. Around one, I get my son from school. If the stars align, he will nap for two hours, and I can work some more, constantly listening for sounds in the hopes it’s not HIM waking up early from his nap. After that snack time for the both of us, well still for me, then we head out to get groceries and meet a play date. Around five we rush back from wherever we are as my husband is coming home, who actually doesn’t mind finding the house empty when he gets home as that means he can watch sports without our son bouncing on him or me asking him 1000 questions about his workday. LOL
If we take too long, though, he gets lonely and calls and wants to know where we are and when we will come back. Can’t make up their minds, those men… J
Around 7-8 PM, if the stars align again, I can pass out on the couch. I am exhausted with my little girl kicking inside me having a dance party. I feel like I swallowed a live octopus, really!
My husband then takes over the bedtime routine for our son and wakes me to get upstairs to bed when he is done watching tv. This pregnancy has had many medical hurdles to overcome, and we thought we would lose the baby at six months (but she made it!), so the last few months have been very hard on my little baby girl and me. So there really are the occasional nights during this pregnancy that I’m simply too tired to walk up the stairs to come to bed with my husband, so I tell him to go without me and that I will sleep on the couch. Have you ever felt this tired before? That you couldn’t even get up some stairs? Tell me about it! J
That’s a typical day in my life right now. No hot love scenes or car chases. Sorry! J
About Denise Daye:
Denise is an Amazon best-selling author who graduated with a master’s in Social Work from an ivy league school, the University of Pennsylvania. She has spent many years of her life supporting families and individuals in need of assistance. She has always had a passion for reading and writing, especially steamy romance, but it wasn’t until her own baby boy was born that Denise turned her passion into her profession. Whenever Denise is not typing away on one of her books, you can find her caring for her son (a.k.a. one of the toughest jobs in the world), binging Netflix with her beloved husband, or chasing after her puppy (who should technically be an adult dog by now).
