Lord Aaron Lyle has one hell of a choice: a bankrupt dukedom, or marriage to some simpering society miss so his spendthrift father can get his hands on her huge dowry. He won’t do it. He has a reputation to maintain, and besides, he’d rather run naked through the streets of London than marry anyone at all. Surely, there must be a third option.
Then Lady Crystal Wilding walks into his life, a bluestocking, full of subversive thoughts, who hates the notion of marriage even more than he does. He is intrigued…and, suddenly, he has an idea. He invites the totally unsuitable lady home on the pretext of presenting her as a possible match…but in truth, Aaron has something far more pleasurable in mind. For her part, Lady Crystal has her own reasons for going along with his harebrained scheme.
Imagine their shock when his highly proper family loves her and starts planning the wedding. Good lord. Now what?
INTERVIEW
- What is on your nightstand?
I’m so anal, I don’t have one. I like everything tucked away in my wardrobe, so my bedroom is pristine, except for the books beside my bed, which I’ve bought a square basket for because there will always be books by my bedside.
- What author would you totally fan?
Dianna Gabaldon. I love her work, her talks, the teleseries. Everything. I recently did a Highlander Scottish tour and went to many of the places where the series was filmed.
- What makes you cringe?
Bullying, the c word used on women, abuse and ugly black tattoos on necks, drunken dangerous men.
- Do you obsessively plot out each point or just go with the flow?
I prefer to write into the mist but my editor for Entangled Publishing likes me to fill out a conflict box, which is sheer torture for me because I have to plan out the whole novel before I write a word. Having said that, it is more efficient and I can write faster. It’s always good to learn to do something new.
When I write I can clearly see the first few scenes and I always know the ending because it’s a romance. For the book I’m writing at the moment, which is a Scottish Highlands book that isn’t contracted, I dreamed some of the scenes when I was doing the Highland tour in Scotland. Sometimes I think these novels are gifted from a higher source. I once had a man’s voice in my head while I was dreaming telling me of the Black Douglas. When I woke up he was still talking to me. I wrote a whole Scottish series after that, and of course, when I researched, the Black Douglas was a real historical person.
- Is there a word you love to use?
Sconce. I love historical words. Drives my family crazy when I use them. I have a sconce too attached to my wall.
Also, if you have any pictures of your pet you would like to share, please attach them. My readers love animals!
I love animals too, so I hope you don’t mind that I have copied in a few.

A question for the author: When you were a child and adolescent, what authors, book series, and genres did you enjoy reading?
HI Nancy, I loved Enid Blyton, then I moved on to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, then at 13 I discovered Mills and Boon and realised I wanted to be a romance author.
Best Cathleen Ross
