MOVIE REVIEW:
The story is based on the best selling book by Jason F. Wright (I hope they do The Wednesday Letters next!) and it follows the story of Hope Jensen as she works through a difficult time in her life. Her mother has just died, her house was broken into and her dream job of writing news stories has devolved into fetching coffee for her boss. Just when she is at her lowest, she receives an anonymous gift of a jar of change which turns her life around.
She wants to know who is behind the gift and gets the chance to find out as she goes undercover to write a feature on the gift. Hope thinks she understands the reasoning behind the gifts but it doesn’t work out as planned. Although this movie takes place in winter, there is nothing in the set design that focuses on Christmas, but the feeling is definitely there. This captures the true meaning of the season without being overly sappy and religious. It is definitely a “feel-good” movie that might inspire you to gift your own jar of change.
I adored Jason Wright’s writing so this is naturally a hit with me. The story follows the book closely and the casting was perfect. The cast managed to capture the characters as they appeared on the page and the story contained all the essential elements to make it work in feature film, something that is sometimes hard to capture on a screen. Of course, this reminds me of my favorite Hallmark movies and has the same tone to them but this is suitable for the whole family and don’t forget to have some tissues with you while watching. There is a bit of romance, some mentions of domestic abuse,
After watching the trailer, I want to see this film for sure.
