What is on your nightstand?
Oh, there is a large pile of books on my nightstand. Most are for adults. But I always have a kids’ novel or two that I’m hoping to read. One that is always there is CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY – I like having it nearby. I also have a copy of my first novel published, THE WORLDWIDE DESSERT CONTEST.
What author would you totally fan?
Well, if we can include the non-living, it would definitely be Dr. Seuss. Even though I don’t write picture books, I adore his work. I try to get some of his zany spirit into my books. He was also supposed to be a nice guy. It would have been a fantastic honor to have met him.
What makes you cringe?
Fingernails on a blackboard, melodramatic prose, asparagus and certain politicians.
Do you plot everything out or go with the flow?
A little of both. I need to have a good central idea and some idea of what happens in the beginning, middle and end but when I get to the individual scenes and character development I find myself going with the flow. I like to see where my imagination takes me in the moment.
Is there a word you love to use?
The right ones for the right spots. J
