I was hoping for a light-hearted romance but instead found myself emotionally entangled with two new characters, Karina and Kael.  Kael has had several tours of duty and remains, like most soldiers, quiet about that part of his life.  At only twenty, he has seen more in life than most adults at fifty.  Of course, he is damaged but he is moving on, like any good soldier.  Karina has grown up in a military family, so she knows the stress of the situation.  She has a stable life with a good job and a home but when she see Kael again, she is drawn to him with all of his flaws.

Even as their romance is blooming, there are societal tensions that threaten this new couple but their warmth really tries to break through what I consider pettiness.  You can feel the tension building between the two and yes, there is a lot of romance there.  I really liked that it felt like the right thing at the right time and wasn’t rushed.  If you are a fan of military life then this romance should be at the top of your to be read list!  This one left me with a feeling that things are unsettled so I expect a follow-up.
