Xela is a working mother of three, living in the Utah. She teaches secondary English and after talking to students for years about following their dreams and doing whatever it takes to achieve them, she decided to take her own advice and complete her lifelong goal of writing a novel. The idea of life on other planets has always fascinated her, and she wondered what they would think of humanity, which is what spawned the idea for the plot of “Understanding the Stars”. When she’s not playing with her kids, or sorting through the endless laundry, you’ll find her watching The Walking Dead, horseback riding, or working on her next book.

Describe your typical writing day:
Being a mother of young children makes it difficult to get a long chunk of writing time, so for me it really comes down to consistency—a little bit every day. Mornings usually consist of running errands and then after lunch is when I let my older son have his screen time while his younger brother naps. This two-hour block is my writing time. I begin by reviewing the previous day’s passage and then shoot for adding 500 – 1000 words. When the writing time is over, I spend the afternoon / evening considering ways to improve the scene that was written, then the process begins again the following day.

I enjoy mornings very much.
I like late, late night through really early mornings, from about midnight until about five in the morning. It’s usually so quiet and peaceful then.
Late night is the best.
Depends if it is the weekend or not. Weekends I love getting up early knowing I have the whole day. Work days it is the time right after supper but before bed.
Thank you for featuring my book on your blog. 🙂
