Holiday Book Club Suggestions

October 29, 2016 By Mary

This post contains affiliate links you can use to purchase the book or media. If you buy the book using that link, I will receive a small commission from the sale.

I was just asked by a friend to recommend some titles with a holiday theme.

I picked a few books from several categories and here is a quick list.

Here are some ideas:

(click on the image for my Amazon link and description)

Romance:

The Trouble with Mistletoe by Jill Shalvis – because she always delivers a perfect romance.

Twelve Days of Christmas by Debbie Macomber – she is always a reliable read that makes you feel good.

Cozy Mystery:

We Wish You A Murderous Christmas by Vicki Delany – her books are always fun and DOG!

Cheddar Off Dead by Julia Buckley – always a quick and fun read.

Eggnog Murder by Leslie Meier – I just adore her books!

Christmas Caramel Murder by Joanne Fluke – another reliable author.

Young Adult:

Dash & Lily’s Book of Dare by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan – STRAND BOOK STORE — I don’t need to say anything else.  You need to read this one before reading:

The Twelve Days of Dash & Lily by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan is just a heartwarming story (not responsible for tears)

What Light by Jay Asher – I have this one up next on my list.

Snowed In by Rachel Hawthorne – very cute and fun.

If you have sarcastic friends:

The Idiot Girl’s Christmas by Laurie Notaro – can’t top Laurie’s stories – they are laugh out loud.

You Better Not Cry by Augusten Burroughs – heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.

Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris – I love his books so much since they make you think a bit.

DOG BOOKS (You knew this was coming)

The Dogs of Christmas by W. Bruce Cameron – Dogs + Christmas = AWESOME (and some tears)

A Dog Named Christmas by Greg Kincaid – ok, this one cause major emotional outbreaks but so worth it.

(He actually has a whole series of holiday dogs but this one is classic.)

The Twelve Dogs of Christmas by David Rosenfeldt

This is part of an ongoing mystery series but you can jump right in anywhere.

Great ideas! I just read Cheddar Off Dead and agree it would be a nice segue into holiday reading. Another heartwarming/romance idea would be RaeAnn Thayne’s new one, Snowfall on Haven Point.
And I think I loved that you have both a dog ( expected) and sarcastic friend section!!

I just got What Light from the library and look forward to reading it soon. I also really want to read The Trouble With Mistletoe. Great list!

I’m going to look for a couple of these at the library. Love Debbie Macomber, and have pinned the L. Notaro book.
