Summary
For Rosemary Reynolds, life in tiny Morning Glory, Mississippi, is just like the fabric store she runs: it seems she’s always waiting around for someone else to make the first stitch. Then a dear childhood friend passes away, leaving behind a gift that sends Rosemary on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
Despite her mother’s protests, Rosemary heads to New York City for a stay in her cousin’s trendy SoHo loft. On her first day in town, a wrong turn leads her to Little Italy…and into the arms of handsome, outgoing Sal Genovese. Sal’s mother wants him to marry a longtime family friend, but to him, Rosemary is a breath of fresh country air, and he’s happy to show her a good time. Soon, Rosemary is swept up in a world she thought only existed in movies. To turn a two-week fling into a forever thing, she and Sal will have to make every moment count.

Guest Post: A Charming New York City Hero’s Date Plan by Liz Talley
Charmingly Yours is not only a story about falling in love but also about the deep bonds of friendship that extend beyond the grave. When Rosemary, Jess and Eden lose their friend to cancer, they discover Lacy has left behind a gift and a challenge – to do something bigger in their lives. Leaving each friend money and her charm bracelet, Lacy sets into motion new adventures and opportunities for the friends she cherished in this cross between Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Sex and the City.
While much of the book, which takes place during a sultry New York City summer, focuses on Rosemary and her leaving her inhibitions back in Morning Glory, Mississippi, the hero of the story Sal Genovese has his own issues to resolve. Sexy, a little wild but full dreams, Sal’s primed for a girl like Rosemary. Sal’s family is big, overbearing and tries to run roughshod over him. Both Rosemary and Sal need to escape reality and indulge in hedonistic romance.
Sal’s a guy who knows New York City so he not only takes Rosemary to do touristy things – like a carriage ride in Central Park and kissing atop the Empire State Building – but he knows the best bars for good cocktails and the perfect rooftop hotel where you can dance to Sinatra. Wanna go on a date with Sal? Come on. He’s got those dark Italian looks with a buff body and a great sense of humor. Of course you want to go.
So let’s start with cocktails at a club in the Flat Iron District. You’re wearing a fetching summery dress in a perfect shade and Sal’s wearing black pants and a white buttoned down Oxford because he just got off work at Mama Mello’s. He smells a little spicy like marinara, yeasty like good Italian bread with just enough hint of sandalwood to remind you that this is a man. He makes you hungry….but not for food.
You talk about baseball, what’s hot on Netflix or the best music for the hipster record player he just bought. You don’t talk art because who really does that? LOL. Then it’s on to dinner. Not Italian. Sal knows a good sushi restaurant in the Village. You decide to walk because it’s a pretty evening and the city is prepared to serenade you with the hustle and bustle of Manhattan. The sushi is perfect in the quiet restaurant tucked away near the park. Afterwards, you could invite him back to your cousin’s walkup in Soho.
But the night is young and nothing’s more chill than beers and a moonlight run on the Staten Island ferry. Sitting outside, watching as Lady Liberty knowingly winks at you, you talk about your family, your dreams, all good things in your life. When the ferry hits Staten Island, you trash your empty bottles, grab each other’s hands and run through the terminal to get back in line for the return trip.
Once back on board, the cool breeze sends you closer to Sal who doesn’t seem to mind a snuggle at all. You sit quietly, content to be comfortable in each other’s arms as the twinkling city provides the perfect backdrop for romance. You arrive back in Manhattan and there’s a cab waiting. Well, now you get to decide how to end the perfect date….

Thanks for having me pop in, BookHounds! And I loved writing up an ideal date. I’m heading to NYC in the fall and I’m going to try to visit a few of the places in the book. Namely, Eataly. Think it sounds excellent. And since I’m taking my mom this go around, a carriage ride will be fun, too. Not a date, but a date with your mama is good too, right?
Again, thanks for letting me visit 🙂
