About the Author

Rita Mae Brown is the bestselling author of the Sneaky Pie Brown series; the Sister Jane series; the Runnymede books, including Six of One and Cakewalk; A Nose for Justice and Murder Unleashed; Rubyfruit Jungle; and In Her Day, as well as several other novels. Mary Minor Harristeen AKA Harry is run off the road by the caregiver, Barbara,  for the former governor  Sam Halloway.  When Harry sees the car has stopped, she discovers that the driver is dead.  Barbara has an illegal drug in her system and that sends everyone into a tailspin that someone is after Sam. Susan, Harry’s granddaughter and her cousin, Edward,  also in politics,  become quite concerned for their own safety.  At least that is what I think is happening.  I found this sequence a little complicated and hard to follow.
At least the cats and dogs spoke to me!  In the flashbacks to the 1800 where a set of violent actions and slaves,  (trying not to giveaway too much plot details), there is a corgi named Piglet, who was just adorable.  I still couldn’t figure out parts of the plot and sequences until I read the afterword. My mother’s favorite story was Rubyfruit Jungle  and we read a lot of Rita Mae Brown’s books throughout the years, but this one was just strange for me. I did enjoy the characters and cozy mystery aspect of all Rita Mae Brown’s Books.
