Finding her is only half the battle
Cyrus Ryland didn’t become England’s wealthiest bachelor by being a pushover, but the mysterious beauty he discovers sneaking around his study during a grand ball enflames his curiosity. They share one dance, but when the clock chimes midnight, she’s nowhere to be found. So Cyrus vows to scour all of London to uncover who she is.
Claire Mayhew is risking it all by forging Ryland’s signature. But the maddening man won’t lease properties to an unmarried woman. He stands in the way of Claire’s dream: running her own business. The midtown property fits her plans perfectly—a place to live as an independent woman of commerce. When she sneaks into his study and forges his signature, she never expects to be attracted to the stodgy bachelor. But if he finds out who she is, all of her dreams could go up in smoke…
We are so excited to welcome historical romance author Gina Conkle to the blog today! Gina’s latest title, The Lady Meets Her Match, comes out April 7th and is the second in her Midnight Meetings series, which retells fairytales in the Georgian era.
To celebrate her release, we are pleased to share an exclusive bonus scene. This particular scene gives us an extra peek at Nate; the street urchin who plays an instrumental role in uniting our hero and heroine in The Lady Meets Her Match.
Nate slid off the bench, bored of The Golden Goose’s midnight antics. Soldiers and sailors crammed the bawdy theater. Smoke mixed with the stench of sweat and ale. He pushed through bodies in search of the door when a feminine hand clutched his sleeve.
“Please. Stay with me.”
The hand belonged to a woman standing by a support beam, her lips tinted with carmine.
“Can’t spare the coin, miss.”
“I’d like your company, coin or not, Mr. Fincher.” Her voice was a rustle of bed sheets, soft and inviting.
He stepped closer, peering at her. “You’re new here.”
Her aquamarine stare drifted over the raucous crowd. “This is my first night and I…I hate it.” She met his gaze, pain writ plainly in her eyes. “I don’t even like acting.”
A fat red curl nestled in ample cleavage. Oh, he knew why Mr. Millburn hired her. His attention shot to her face again. If he wiped off all that white face paint, he was sure to find a country maid new to Town.
“Want to have some real fun?” He grinned, leaning closer. “Come with me.”
To see what trouble Nate gets up to check out The Lady Meets Her Match!
