One good proposition deserves another…
Heiress Augusta Meredith can’t help herself—she stirs up gossip wherever she goes. A stranger to Bath society, she pretends to be a charming young widow, until sardonic, darkly handsome Joss Everett arrives from London and uncovers her charade.
Augusta persuades Joss to keep her secret in exchange for a secret of his own. Weaving their way through the treacherous pitfalls of a polite world only too eager to expose and condemn them, they begin to see that being true to themselves is not so bad…as long as they’re true to each other…

Two Truths and a Lie—Heroine
Thank you for hosting me today in connection with the release of my newest historical romance, SECRETS OF A SCANDALOUS HEIRESS. It features a wily heroine pretending to be someone else, a mixed-race hero hunting his cousin’s blackmailer, and—of course!—a happily-ever-after once Joss and Augusta begin to help each other and reveal their true selves.
I’m here to tell you a little about Augusta Meredith, the heroine of SECRETS OF A SCANDALOUS HEIRESS. But in the spirit of a historical romance full of so many secrets and scandals, I’ll fudge the truth a bit. Two of these statements about Augusta are true, and one is a lie. See if you can pick it out!
- The heiress to a cosmetics fortune, Augusta had a tense relationship with her highbrow parents, who wanted her to marry well and have no direct involvement with the family business.
- Augusta was named before I came up with her family history. To give the Meredith family an origin story that made sense, I looked up the family history of the real-life writer George Meredith. Since he was from Portsmouth, Augusta’s family came from Portsmouth.
- At the beginning of the book, Augusta dislikes Joss’s blunt, sly sense of humor. But by the end of their story, it’s one of the things she enjoys most about being with him.
Historical romance author Theresa Romain pursued an impractical education that allowed her to read everything she could get her hands on. She then worked for universities and libraries, where she got to read even more. Eventually she started writing, too. She lives with her family in the Midwest.
What’s your most scandalous secret?
To celebrate the release of Theresa Romain’s latest title, Secrets of a Scandalous Heiress, we invite you to take part in her two truths and a lie prepub blitz! Tell two truths and one lie about yourself over Twitter and Facebook with the tag #ScandalousSecrets from December 29th to January 9th and challenge your friends and followers to see how well they know you!
Mary, thank you for hosting me today!
1. I hate chocolate
2. I am a librarian
3. I love cardigans
Seanna, I have to guess that #1 is the lie. If you truly do hate chocolate, you are in rare company!
hmm… I would say option 1.
Sounds like a great book! looking forward to reading it.
I think # 1 is the lie
i think number 1 is the lie
#1 is the lie
Okay, two truths and one lie. Here goes:
1) I am a Goucher Girl
2) I love cats
3) I work as a librarian
Laurel, I had to look up Goucher Girl. That is so specific, I’m guessing it must be true! Is the lie that you work as a librarian?
I think it’s number 1 that’s the lie. This cover is beautiful. I’m looking forward to reading this book.

I’m looking most forward to watching the many changes in my new grandson. Thanks for the giveaway.
Nancy, congratulations! How old is he?
Thanks for all the guesses! A little later today, I’ll tell you whether you’re right or not. 🙂
Hope to be healthy.
I am guessing number 1 is the lie.
You all are some good guessers. 🙂 Every single one of you guessed that #1 was the lie, and you are right! Augusta was her doting parents’ only child, and they raised her to understand the family business. As a woman, she isn’t permitted to run it directly, but she figures out some ways around that.
Number 2 is true–the writer George Meredith inspired a quick look at his origins, and that touched off Augusta’s parents’ entire backstory. Serendipity!
Number 3 is also quite true. Augusta becomes very fond of Joss’s sly wit. I hope readers will too!
I’m most looking forward to reading more books! And generally just being happier.
I’d love to read more books this year. And, to spend more time with my honey.
Hmm….2 truths and 1 lie, eh?
1. I hate the color pink.
2. I read 567 books in 2014.
3. I love dresses, and wear them often.
I’m looking forward to spending a lot of time with my three grandkids. They are such a joy.
I am looking forward to discovering some new authors to read this year! Thanks!
What I would like to do in the new year is spend less time running around and more time achieving! Getting my things done in a timely manner. This calls for ADD meds, lol!!
not sure, barely survived the last one
I’m looking forward to getting my garden started – I was kind of lazy with it last year.
Looking forward to all my grandson’s new first’s this year, including his first birthday!!!
