1. What is on your nightstand?

Right now? A Kindle (currently reading The Rookie by Scott Sigler), Gold Bond lotion, a pen, an envelope back to jot notes on, a glass of water, a reading lamp, and a lot of dust. Also a Doctor Who book I’ve just finished reading, and a hairband.

2. What author would you totally fan girl?

Mercedes Lackey, Catherine Asaro, and Lois McMaster Bujold. Also Robert Heinlein. I would totally fangirl for Robert Heinlein.

3. What makes you cringe?

Nails on chalkboard. People talking about problems endlessly and not wanting to talk about solutions, or anything positive. Lack of respect. Pushy salespeople. Beets. Pencils with #3 lead. Saying the wrong thing. Blue cheese. Flat tires. Any weather colder than 45 degrees or so.

4. Are you worried that your google history will get you into trouble?

Yes. My husband jokes (but he’s not joking) that when the men in black suits show up at our door he’s not asking questions, he’s just pointing them to me. I mostly haunt the FBI forensic sites. Mostly.

5. Do you obsessively plot out each point or just go with the flow?

Depends on the day. I’m a “recovering pantser” which means that by nature I prefer to sit down at the keyboard and see what happens. Unfortunately, as a method to write a book, that one’s slow, convoluted, and frustrating. So I try to outline at least the basics, even if I change my mind as I go, and some days I obsess over plot points. Others, though, the words flow and the magic happens. Those days are precious.

In addition to fun blog posts, interviews, and exclusive excerpts, fans will have a chance to solve a mystery during the month-long VACANT blog tour! A “Clue-like” checklist is available to download from the author’s blog, to be marked off as readers visit stops along the tour schedule. Somewhere on participating blog posts will be clues (clearly marked) that will eliminate specific “Location”, “Weapon”, or “Suspect” options.
