Laurel Osterkamp becomes very attached to her characters, and it’s hard for her to stop writing about them.  The Holdout, November Surprise, Blue State, Campaign Promises, American Angst and The Next Breath all feature the Bricker family, as their stories continue. 1.      What is the first book you remember reading by yourself as a child?

My father bought be a book of fairy tales. It wasn’t a picture book though, and I felt very grownup, reading a chapter book. Soon after that I moved onto Little House on the Prairie.

 

2.      What are you reading right now?

Dear Daughter by Elizabeth Little.

 

3.      How does your garden grow?

If my garden grows at all, it’s despite me! People ask me how I have time to write, and I always tell them it’s because I don’t garden.

 

4.      What is the last thing you Googled?
“Crested Gecko” – my son has one as a pet and we’re always looking up information to make sure we’re taking care of him right.

 5.      What makes you cringe?

 

I always cringe when my students don’t laugh at my jokes. I teach high school in a high-poverty district, and they can be a tough crowd
