5 Questions with Paige Tyler
- What is the first book you remember reading by yourself as a child?
A Fish Out of Water by Helen Palmer (wife of Dr. Seuss). The story is about a boy who buys a fish named Otto from a pet store. The store owner gives the boy instructions on how to care for the fish, including strict feeding instructions: “Never feed him a lot. Never more than a spot! Or something may happen. You never know what.” As I’m sure you can guess, the boy doesn’t follow the instructions, with hilarious results.
I still have the same book up on my shelf, and I still love to read it.
- What are you reading right now?
I’m reading Hell on Wheels, by Julie Ann Walker. It’s one of her Black Knights Inc. books and is filled with all kinds of action, adventure and hunky guys! She’s a fellow Sourcebooks author I ran into at RT in New Orleans. I and just knew I had to read her stuff the moment I met her.
- How does your garden grow?
Very poorly. I have the complete opposite of a green thumb. Because of this, every plant in our house is silk…and I still have issues with them! I’m not really the outdoor type, either, so if we plant something outside, I’m usually pointing at a location and having hubby do the actual digging and touching stuff. Dirt is call dirt because it’s dirty!
- What is the last thing you Googled?
I just looked up the actress Shelley Hennig…she plays Malia on one of my favorite TV shows Teen Wolf. I checked her out because she’s the person I think of when I imagine what the heroine in Book 3 of my SWAT series looks like. When I’m doing my cover art form for my publisher, I always like to add pictures of actors I think the characters most looks like. It helps them find the right model for the cover. So Shelley, if you’re reading this, be ready to play the part of bad girl werewolf Jayna Winston when Hollywood comes calling for the movie rights!
- What makes you cringe?
Bugs, snakes, germs, raw chicken, creepy baby dolls…not necessarily in that order.
