I don’t have a current one but when I was a kid I loved an anthology – STRANGELY ENOUGH. I have searched and searched for it over the years but have never found it. It was a fantastic collection of all the ghost/horror/scary stories kids over 30 yrs grew up hearing.
I really like Mary Higgins Clark…does that count as spooky or scary? Some of them are pretty scary. I don’t have a favorite of hers, I like them all.
“Hell House” by Richard Matheson is one my fave horror novels.
Definitely the “Scary Stories” trilogy! Creepy then, creepy now!

I think the spookiest books I read now are the Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs. In my younger days, I enjoyed all the spooky books by Christopher Pike and R.L. Stine (pre-Goosebumps!).
I would love a copy of any book that deals with historical fantasy like Fiona Ingram’s The Search for the Sacred Scarab or Carrie Ryan’s Foretold or Breathe Annie Breathe if it is $10.00 or less. I’m a die-hard fan of Shirley Jackson’s “The Haunting of Hill House”, which has been made twice into a movie by the name “The Haunting”. Don’t bother with the remake. The original, though is amazing and I remember staying up late watching it with my sister and brother when I was young.
I don’t read many scary books but my favorite is Downside Ghost by Stacia Kane.

I don’t watch truly scary movies… my husband points this out all the time. This time of year I like to watch Brother’s Grimm, Hocus Pocus, the old black and white monster movies, the list goes on.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is one of my spooky favs. Just thinking about the stories scares me!
Favorite spooky book? Geez it’s been so long ago, I used to read them all the time when I was younger but mostly now I read Paranormal Romance (and that’s not really scary). Probably Amityville Horror. I remember being scared from it 🙂
The closest to horror that I get nowadays is Dean Koontz and I’ve read most of his books…can’t think of a favourite amongst them though.

I’m not that in to scary books. I prefer scary movies over books. But I do remember reading a Lisa Gardner book many years ago that scared the crap out of me. Took away all sense of safety. I swore off all realistic serial killer books at that point.

For many years I wasn’t very into horror and scary books and films. But then I started to see a few horror classics and my interest grew on the genre. Now I’m trying to expand into books in the genre too.

You may not consider it scary, but when I was a kid I was terrified of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It was the scene where Grandpa arrives in Vulgaria, I was certain something terrible was going to happen to him!
If I want a good scare from a book I always look for Stephen King’s books! My favorite of all his books thus far is IT! I’m terrified of clowns so this one always gives me a good scare and nightmares lol! However I can’t watch the movie 🙁 last time I tried to watch it I had an anxiety attack lol!

My favorite isn’t something traditionally spooky – it’s The Night I Disappeared by Julie Reece Deaver. It’s about this girl who has a friend no one’s met…for good reason. Dying to find more stories like it. That one, I found over 10 years ago, in middle school.

Well, after watching friday the 13th I on don’t like gory horror anymore, Give e paranomal anyday! However, I use to love Sleepy Hollow and still do. I guess it borders on paranomal.
I haven’t read a lot of spooky books but I’m very interested in reading Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake!
Any Stephen King book is scary.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark always scared me as a kid. I went through some of the stories recently with my husband. Still scary.

Barbara Michaels writes some pretty wicked books. A Stitch in Time, is about a quilt that is possessed. Good stuff. 🙂

Not a Halloween book, but I loved reading The Monster at the End of This Book featuring the Muppetts to my children and grand children.

I would have to say “Tales from the Crypt”
I love the Hannibal Lecter series of books — particularly “Hannibal Rising,” which details how he came to become his fabulous cannibalistic self.
I loved Asylum by Madeliene Roux!
As far as movies go, I love Psycho, The Nightmares on Elm Street . For books, I’m not sure I can choose just one, but like many already posted.
