About the Author 

Emily Greenwood worked for a number of years as a writer, crafting newsletters and fundraising brochures, but she far prefers writing playful love stories set in Regency England, and she thinks romance novels are the chocolate of literature. A Golden Heart finalist, she lives in Maryland with her husband and two daughters.

Thanks very much for having me here today to help celebrate the release of 
GENTLEMEN PREFER MISCHIEF!
What is the first book you remember reading by yourself as a child?
Bread and Jam for Frances, by Russell Hoban. It was about a little badger who was so picky that all she wanted to eat was bread and jam for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This resonated with me, since I was super-picky, too. In case you’re wondering, her parents allow her to eat all the bread and jam she wants, and she soon feels left out of the nice, varied meals they’re eating and decides to try new things.
I, too, finally branched out food-wise and expanded my culinary horizons beyond peanut butter and jelly.
What are you reading right now? 
I’m reading Jane Austen’s England, by Roy and LesleyAdkins. It’s probably no surprise that as a Regency romance author, I love Jane Austen, but this fascinating and very readable book would be interesting to anyone who likes history. It’s full of weird details about life in the early nineteenth century, like the practice whereby a widow whose husband had left her with his debts could shed herself of them when she remarried; she would come to the wedding with no clothes on (or just an undergarment) to show that she would bring nothing with her to the new marriage, not even the debts.
Though I love fantasizing about living in Regency times, this book also has heartbreaking accounts of child labor that make me so grateful to be living now.

How does your garden grow?

Badly! It makes me wish I were a Regency lady, like Lily, the heroine of GENTLEMEN PREFER MISCHIEF, so I could have a gardener. On the other hand, Lily is so into being productive and having a purpose, she might not be able to enjoy her beautiful garden—which is why she needs Viscount Roxham, my teasing rogue of a hero, to loosen her up.
I used to like to garden, and when we bought our house, it came with a lot of raspberry bushes. The raspberries were great—we picked buckets of them—but unless we were out there pruning all the time, the neighboring forsythia bushes would take them over. Then we developed a vine problem, which totally overwhelmed the garden, like something out of a fairy tale but not so amusing. And to think I was once charmed by honeysuckle!

What is the last thing you Googled? 

An image for koala bears. They’re my spirit animal J

What makes you cringe?

Pepper or bacon being mixed with chocolate, cleaning the guinea pig’s cage, advanced math, large bugs encountered indoors.
