REVIEW: Mommy Brings Home the Bacon by Nikki Mark

August 5, 2011 By Mary

The Synopsis from www.mommybringshomethebacon.com

“Mommy Brings Home the Bacon” is a heartwarming children’s book that explores the touching relationship between a young boy and his working mom.
Told from the young boy’s perspective, the whimsical narrative reflects a child’s imaginative interpretation of why mommy goes to work, and the beautiful bond that develops as a result.
Bringing simplicity and lightheartedness to an emotional topic, “Mommy Brings Home the Bacon” fosters a child’s appreciation for a working mother, while simultaneously easing the minds of moms who balance the difficult responsibilities of financially supporting their household and raising the children they so dearly love.

MY THOUGHTS
ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT

A truly adorable book about moms, working, and bacon that is just the perfect explanation for why moms have to work.  I wish I had a book like this to read to my son when he was little.  I always worked outside the home while he was growing up and Monday mornings were a struggle at times.  This book takes on those issues with humor and when the mother explains to her son that she needs to work to “bring home the bacon”, her son wonders why since they really don’t eat that much bacon.  This is a wonderful story that explains just what “bringing home the bacon” means.  Bonus Points:  Rosie the Dog  gets quite a few mentions and I bet she gets all the bacon she can eat!
